This series started off as a need. I was going through quite a bit in 2023 and was desperate for a mental distraction. Enter Charly Clement's Out of This World Portraits class on her website. I watched the class, took notes, made multiple moodboards, fleshed out concept sketches... then let them sit for a long time as I mentally and physically recovered. It wasn't until March 2024 that I decided to render them. Some of the subjects are based on friends... I told them to consider them love letters, a celebration of who they are. Others are based on myself (!) or the characters that somehow emerged from chaotic madness that is my brain. The result is the Stella Luna series: a long-term portrait project.
Charly has a knack for 3-word, open-ended prompts. The ones for this portrait are crescent moon, daisy, and glasses. Fun fact: This is kind of a self-portrait.
